The Green Files > What I think about global warming : Stoat
[Stoat] I am personally a little skeptical on point 4, and the current atmosphere of denial limits the credibility of anyone who is going to try and be skeptical on that point. It looks a little like 'the earth isn't really warming up, but if it is, its due to something other than Co2, and even if the world is warming due to Co2 its all good because Co2 is plant fertiliser....

[Skeptical Science] What is Global Warming and the Greenhouse Effect?: =========================================Carbon dioxide certainly does cause global warming because if atmospheric carbon dioxide increases then the world will become warmer than it would otherwise be, and this can't not happen (not without changing the laws of physics). It's certainly possible for another forcing to have a cooling influence which counteracts the warming from increased carbon dioxide, such that there is no net warming, but the warming influence of increased carbon dioxide is still there (if it wasn't, then in that situation there would be global cooling).
[Global Warming & Climate Change] Why does everyone try to deny the fact that human are effecting ...: Even if global warming is real, I wouldn't care. And let's just believe what the media and internet says. Well, I certainly don't. MTRstudent says: July 4, 2010 at 11:50 PM. This appears to explain part of it: ... Some people are genuinely skeptical, but it seems the majority of those you find on the internet are simply not interested in critical thought. Psychological evidence suggests this might be because they don't like the political ramifications. ...
[Signs of the Times] The EU's response to global warming is a costly mistake -- Signs ...: New research shows that the EU's "20/20/20" policy, which aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions to 20 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020 (and ensure 20 per cent renewable energy), will cost hundreds of billions of euros but yield only tiny benefits. The UK alone will be hit to the tune of an annual 35 billion euros (£28 billion).
[JoNova] The Unskeptical Guide to the Skeptics Handbook « JoNova: The booklet uses a mislabeled graph with a deceptive scale, won’t show the damning graphs it supposedly debunks, assumes positive feedback occurs despite the weight of empirical evidence against it (Douglass, Spencer, Lindzen), and repeats irrelevant information even though The Skeptics Handbook describes why rising sea levels and glaciers and ice sheets can’t possibly tell us what causes the warming. It misleadingly discusses a different fingerprint —
[Skeptical Science] CO2 is Good for Plants: Another Red Herring in the Climate Change ...: 5) Yes-increased CO2 is resulting in global warming which-in turn-is leading to a general decline in fresh water availability (Autumn rainfall in South Australia alone has dropped by 30% in the last 30 years). Increased CO2 will also cause increased vegetative growth in weeds, which will place further cost constraints on farmers in terms of weed control &/or fertilizer/water.
[StopGlobalWarming.org] StopGlobalWarming.org » Stanford Study: Few Experts Support Global ...: The scientists at Stanford have mentioned that they are ready to take some heat from doubters of anthropogenic, or human-affected, climate change who “object to their data.” But according to Stephen Schneider, a professor of biology and a coauthor of the paper in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the team “took pains to avoid any sort of prejudice or skewed data in their analysis.”
[Spiked] Is the climate around global warming changing? | spiked: Bjørn Lomborg broadly agreed with Bob Watson, former head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and Bob Ward, from the Grantham Research Institute of Climate Change (both of whom have been vitriolic in their attacks on sceptics in the past) on the basic science of global warming:
[MetaFilter] Rethinking hydro power for energy independence | MetaFilter: for a 1987 World Bank study that around 50 cubic kilometres of sediment - nearly one per cent of global reservoir storage capacity - is trapped behind the worlds dams every year. In total, calculated Mahmood, by 1986 around 1,100 cubic kilometres of sediment had accumulated in the worlds reservoirs, consuming almost one-fifth of global storage capacity.
[Scientific Blogging] Interview With A Global Warming Skeptic: Dr. Roy Spencer: No, since atmospheric carbon dioxide is necessary for life on Earth, I do not consider it a “pollutant”. Considering this fact, it is amazing that there is so little of it: only 40 out of every 100,000 molecules of air are CO2, and it takes 5 years to increase than number by 1 through the burning of fossil fuels. It might well turn out that more CO2 is, on the whole, good for life on Earth. Hundreds of scientific papers have demonstrated this for various types of plants, and we are beginning to see research that the same might be true for the oceans as well.
[Comments for Planetsave] Is Storing Carbon Dioxide Under the Ocean a Viable Strategy for ...: While initially I was extremely skeptical of this idea (because I thought that it might cause all kinds of unintended ecological havoc), by the end of the interview, I was somewhat more optimistic.
[abitare's Blog] Global Warming: Are 31000 Skeptical Scientists Wrong?: Climate studies in the last 100 years have proved the earth is warming and has warmed a couple of degrees on average for the century from matierial I have seen (don't have a specific source because it has been a couple of years since I have seen the material). However the issue is still up for discussion as to what is causing the warming, CO2 or it could be just part of the planets weather cycle. My personal opinion is that it is some of both and that we are already making big steps especially in the auto and machinery industry to reduce emissions as the Tier 4 diesels have reduced emissions by over 99% since they started the emission changes.
[Home] Climate Change Fraud - New Global Warming Scandal: 'Consensus' on ...: This scrutiny has revealed so many serious flaws with the report, that the report simply cannot be considered the 'gold standard' of climate science. In fact, the report is so flawed, if those involved with the report had been subject to the strict standards of corporate reporting, they would now be guilty for grossly misleading the public and for bringing the science of climate into disrepute as a consequence of their gross misrepresentation of climate science.
[Humble Piety] How to Talk to a Climate Skeptic? « Humble Piety: Some recent data indicates that tropical upper tropopsheric water vapour does not quite keep up with constant relative humidity (Minschwaner and Dessler, 2004) (though they still found that the feedback was positive). Moist convection schemes in models are constantly being refined, and its possible that newer schemes will change things.
[Secondhand Smoke] Global Warming Hysteria: Early to Bed, Early to Rise”¦ » Secondhand ...: The Japanese government has launched a campaign encouraging people to go to bed and get up extra early in order to reduce household carbon dioxide emissions. The Morning Challenge campaign, unveiled by the Environment Ministry, is based on the premise that swapping late night electricity for an extra hour of morning sunlight could significantly cut the nation’s carbon footprint.
[Watts Up With That?] Global warming's Stephen Schneider: The Light That Failed | Watts ...: Some were pretty innocent–saying that the signatories agreed that there was no consensus on global warming’s ultimate effects and scope. But now, this list exists in one place and has a title on it–and no matter how they pretty the title up, it’s essentially ‘Damned Global Warming Denialists Who Should Never Get a Job or Get Published Ever Again.’
[Skeptical Science] Is the long-term trend in CO2 caused by warming of the oceans?: The claim is that warming has caused the oceans to liberate the CO2 stored as HCO3 (even though the CO2 *precedes* the warming by a good couple of decades!) CO2 liberated from a purely inorganic source like this should not impact the long-term ratio of C13/C12, yet Mauno Loa data shows that the C13/C12 ratio is definitely declining-so ocean sinks *cannot* be the source!
[Climate Progress] Disputing the 'consensus' on global warming « Climate Progress: Such studies are also done for many other observations: land-based temperature rise, atmospheric temperature rise, sea level rise, arctic ice melt, inland glacier melt, Greeland and Antarctic ice sheet melt, expansion of the tropics (desertification) and changes in precipitation. Studies compare every testable prediction from climate change theory and models (and suggested by paleoclimate research) to actual observations.
