[Upturned Earth] The trouble with environmentalism is that it’s now synonymous with global warming, which bothers me because of its mass hysteria. I’m an environmentalist in the sense that I support better integration of human habitats with natural ones and very much support mass transit goals, but I just can’t bring myself to get on the climate change wagon.

[New Hampshire Public Radio - Environment] Is Borax really a "green" cleaner? | New Hampshire Public Radio: Mining for minerals such as boron (the key ingredient in the “Borax” we use for cleaning, pest control and other household tasks) is an activity that typically leaves behind a big environmental footprint. Boron, oxygen and sodium make up sodium tetraborate, which is sold as “20 Mule Team Borax” (the name comes from the teams of 18 mules and two horses that would haul large wagons of processed borax from mines in the late 1800s to the nearest railroad spur).

[The Unbearable Nakedness of CLIMATE CHANGE] Richard Black Sees The Light « The Unbearable Nakedness of CLIMATE ...: The earth could cope with a few hundred million Westerners driving big cars and hogging all the resources, but now that the rest of humanity is getting on board the wealth wagon, the problem has become much more serious. The earth simply does not have the carrying capacity to extend the Western life style to six billion people.
[www.NovelTimes.com] My Transit Addiction « www.NovelTimes.com: By virtue of more foot, pedal, and transit time, I grew increasingly aware of and shocked by the extent to which cars have dictated the physical structure of our society. Everything from the urban grid to the layout of property lots and shapes of buildings has catered to the overwhelming presence of autos.

[The Liber(al)tarian Network] Intentional Communities in Outer Space ” The Liber(al)tarian Network: Physical self-sufficiency hinges on the question of environmental closure. Does your settlement leak any important resource, and can that resource be replenished from the environment around you? No settlement will ever achieve 100% closure. Something will leak. So what environment has the greatest variety of physical elements that can be easily accessed to make up the losses? After Earth, the second best place is Mars. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t go other places, or that settlement would be impossible other places. I just think that politically independent, physically self sufficient settlements will be easiest on Mars.

[Sonnie Trotter] Sonnie Trotter » Blog Archive » Intelligent development vs ...: I’m truly torn here, on the one hand, we’re all fucked anyway right, why don’t we just enjoy the ride into the depths of hell and jump on the devils wagon, er I mean, the chair lift and go skiing and use the new roads to access new terrain and great cliffs, it could be fun, and in the end, we may not be able to do anything about it anyway. I mean shit, honestly, this would be pretty darn good for the value of my house, and jobs for the local economy, but at what COST? It’s worth putting up the fight. On the other hand it’s not very sustainable, it’s not very palatable, and it’s not good for our community, it’s a wasteful and damaging project and I would much rather see our council and our attention be brought back to the downtown core, the only true resource that separates us from Whistler and Vancouver, make it clean, pretty and beautiful, focus on
[Planet Forward | Sustainable Essentials for the Urban Environmentalist] Disney Redefines Corporate Social Responsibility | Planet Forward ...: The Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green initiative invites young people to join together to help the environment across four key areas: climate, water, waste and habitats. Proponents of the original Urban Nomad movement, such as Ken Isaacs, sought first to focus on the re-appropriation and adaptive reuse of found urban space -primarily indoors.
