Center for Media and Democracy - Publishers of PR Watchhttp://www.prwatch.org [Center for Media and Democracy - Publishers of PR Watch] In March 2002 the then West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection spokesman, Andy Gallagher, drafted a media release to inform residents in Wood County, West Virginia, that the toxic chemical C8 was in air emissions from DuPont's Parkersburg plant. In a deposition as part of a class action suit by residents Gallagher stated that Dee Ann Staats, a toxicologist working as the departments' science adviser, insisted that all statements relating to C8 emissions were to be vetted by DuPont.

While no admissions of guilt have yet been heard from Dupont, interestingly it has promised to pay a sum of at least $85 million and possibly up to $340 million to settle the case.

[Indianalawblog.com] The Indiana Law Blog: October 2004 Archives: Joseph Anderer, a recently discharged Milwaukee police officer, argues on appeal that his constitutional rights were violated when he was arrested, booked and detained, and subsequently terminated from his employment (3.5 years) on the orders of Chief Arthur Jones of the Milwaukee Police Department (“MPD”), based almost exclusively on the fabricated story of an incorrigible and psychotic juvenile, without a scintilla of corroborating evidence. The majority attempts to defend his arrest and refuses to accept Anderer’s contention and argument—which finds full support in the record—that his accuser, an out-of-control juvenile named “JR,” who also maliciously created another fabricated accusation against a second officer stating that he had raped him, was likewise wholly incredible.

The Surface Transportation Policy Project’s latest “Mean Streets” report finds that walking is the most dangerous mode of transportation, per mile, and is becoming more dangerous in some areas of the United States, particularly for certain segments of the population: African-Americans, for example, make up 19 percent of pedestrian deaths, even though they represent 12.7 percent of the total population.
