The Green Files > Public Opinion, Global Warming and the CPRS - Pollytics

[Pollytics] I wager that opposition to the CPRS (as proposed, or in any form) is more about people wanting to drive as much as they like, blast air conditioners whenever they like, and buy energy at the cheapest possible price, than a concern about the supposed economic threat to developing nations posed by some sort of carbon trading. On that point, what does the human suffering in developing nations exacerbated by global warming do to the bleeding hearts of the anti-action brigade?

[Pollytics] Global Warming and CPRS Polling - Pollytics: ...] The Pollytics blog analysis of these results shows that it seems to be largely driven by partisan effects, with Labor voters becoming less likely to believe that concerns are exaggerated and Coalition voters more likely to believe that concerns are exaggerated (surprisingly, Green voters are also showing increased scepticism; if this is real it is perhaps a reminder that about a third of Green voters appear to be low-ideology, not-rusted-on, supporters).

[Andrew Bolt] The global warming conspiracy: how it massaged data and hid truth ...: Could the hackers be asked to get into the emails of Steffen, CSIRO and Wong (and her advisers) so their manipulation of the sea levels can be highlighted in the press. It appears that every state environmental department was asked to spread the nonsense of huge rises in one hundred years time.

[Get Energy Smart! NOW!] Australian PM Rudd takes Global Warming Deniers to the Shed for a ...: At the same time, around the world we have seen nations of every political stripe take concrete action to work towards legislation in this critical area - actions which have been slowly building towards coordinated international action to tackle climate change. And most nations have been engaged in the multilateral process - through the Bali Roadmap two years ago, through the 14th Conference of the Parties in Poznan, Poland last year, and the intensifying global negotiations leading up to the 15th Conference of Parties in Copenhagen this year.

[The Stump] Another failed summit - The Stump: I don’t speak for the Greens when I write here, but their statements over a fairly long indicated a belief that the original CPRS (before it was amended/weakened further in an attempt to gain Liberal support) was so far below what the science said was necessary that it would have dangerous to pass, as it would have locked in investment and pricing far below what is needed to reduce emissions sufficiently. Any future amendments would have then had to cost many billions more in further compensation to those who invested on the basis of the original model.

[Crikey » Politics] Take your CPRS and shove it - Crikey: Let us hope that decades hence, the descendants of our current MPs  — I mean their political descendants, not their actual kids, assuming the major parties don’t adopt preselection by hereditary right  — will not have to stand up in the Great Hall and apologise for it. Apologise to the people who died of dengue fever or in bushfires, apologise to the families of the elderly who succumbed to heatwaves.

[Letters] No, minister, a delay is not denial - Letters Blog | The Australian: And the public would have kept uninformed and misinformed if it had not been for the outcry in the Liberal Party regarding the CPRS/ETS, which has been too obvious to ignore in the past week or so. Any responsible Government who was confident that the major changes proposed in Australia’s economy, huge job losses and futures of all Australians that Rudd Labor proposed with their CPRS/ETS and its huge cost would have provided plenty of information and explanations regarding these proposals to the public.

[Andrew Bolt] Rudd's rant | Herald Sun Andrew Bolt Blog: What a coincidence that Rudd’s media cheer squad in the SMH came up that very day of the rant with several pages - 3 columnists, Photos of “big industry”, how each pollute + vested interests , and are supplying the sceptics with multi-millions of dollars to delude the people into believing there is no MM Global Warming.

[SA Latest News] Climate bad for conservatives | Australian analysis ...: I think it is natural that the Australian community which after all has been enduring droughts not seen since the great Federation drought over 100 years ago plus record temperatures, should be concerned about climate change, considering further the frenzy over Copenhagen, the take no prisoner approach of the Government with the seeming support of the opposition over the issue and CPRS - by the way does any one understand CPRS, if not then that's a real worry.

[JoNova] The Wong-Fielding Meeting On Global Warming « JoNova: He stopped that tactic, and foolishly mentioned the Mann graph, when I asked what happened to the observational data comprising more than a third of the time period represented by the graph he became catatonic briefly, then professed ignorance, this seemed to easy so when I mentioned the cattle grazing in Greenland, Scottish Wine (yech), and the cause of the French Revolution, he brought up the ice core data. I think you can guess the way the rest of this went.

[Crikey » Politics] No regrets on the road from Copenhagen - Crikey: to the point its now considered slightly more important than a cheap Kmart doorstop, maybe we can get to the point WHY they even bother holding these stupid conferences (apart from them being brainstorming sessions - or lack thereof - on how to flog us all with a new “green friendly” tax).
