[Alonline] These would very quickly allow most transport to move to an oil free fuel supply (air transport would need a radical rethink in order to be able to use fuel cells, but all other modes of transport could be converted relatively simply). Hydrogen fuel cells would also allow us to change the way we look at our power supplies as well, as it may be more cost effective for businesses and larger properties to move to generating their own supply via a fuel cell rather than relying on commercial supply.

[The Oil Drum - Discussions about Energy and Our Future] DrumBeat: July 7, 2008: "Don't envy us", the Saudi's tell us Americans. I never did, figuring only a few are making the big (oil) bucks, freedoms are few and far between, make a mistake and lose a limb, women are hidden under veils of clothing, 100 plus heat is the norm, and the sandy landscape would get boring the first day.
[Futurist.com] This is not a drill: The economy in the near term is staggering under the weight of the financial crisis. (Note: the week of July 7-11, 2008 really brought this fact home, as the stock market went from the worst month of June since the great depression, to its lowest level in years, while oil reached another all-time high price.)
[Jetson Green] What About the Solar Corridor, Mr. Pickens?: Pickens doesn't seem to discuss (as far as I can tell) the connection between solar power and the future of transportation. He talks about the solar corridor, but he doesn't explain how the solar corridor could help relieve our dependence on foreign oil, too.

[Price Tags] The Triple-Witching Hour: An historic election cycle, rising gas prices, a struggling real estate market, and a global credit crunch are forcing voters and politicians alike to rethink the behavior and models that have shaped American life since the middle of the 20th century. In the following TPR interview, Ventura City Manager Rick Cole makes a persuasive case that Americans must find a way to ensure that the silver lining in these troubling times will be new development standards based on the smart growth model.
[Dave Chandler's Earthside.com] Gasoline vs. Groceries: Ads for locking gas caps are becoming more prevalent. Restaurant owners are complaining that thieves are helping themselves to used barrels of cooking oil, which can be home-brewed into biodiesel fuel.
[Hotels Cheap Discount Travel Blog] Minimize the cost of gas while on vacation: In the west, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver all have good public transportation systems. In the east, Washington, DC, New York, Boston, Philadelphia or Montreal are great walking places with reliable public transportation.
[A to Z Energy ETF] DrumBeat: July 10, 2008: But there is, I think, a valid reason for this fuel fixation. I believe that, assuming recent cost increase trends continue (and I believe they will, considering political instability and Peak Oil factors, among others), this single issue may redefine society more than any other I’ve yet encountered (or will encounter) in my lifetime.
[Blog B Title] James Van Blaricum: Some are reining in gas consumption, either by cutting back on all but the most essential driving or looking anew at alternatives like public transportation. Sales of gas-guzzling vans and sport utility vehicles are down, while those of fuel-efficient compacts and hybrids are on the rise.( signal oil &

[So many deeds are cried out to be done and always urgently.] special reports on energy: “Peak oil”, if oil means the traditional sort that comes cheaply out of holes in the ground, probably will arrive soon. There is oil aplenty of other sorts (tar sands, liquefied coal and so on), so the stuff is unlikely to run out for a long time yet.
