[The Oil Drum - Discussions about Energy and Our Future] Peak Oil, IHS Data and The Broken Clock: But I am suspicious that IHS 'data', which has been overly optimistic for 7 years running, may hold disproportionate weight in the calculation of EIA future forecasts, which trickle down to middle managers in corporate america, who then dismiss analysis (like on this site) that we may be facing an energy train wreck within a decade. [The Oil Drum - Discussions about Energy and Our Future] DrumBeat: February 27, 2008: From ASPO-USAs perspective, the article entitled “The End of Cheap Oil,” published 10 years ago in the March issue of Scientific American magazine, marked a turning point in the discourse about peak oil”at least in the US. While a few books and a lot of articles had featured peak oil prior to that article, none had the circulation or prestige that the Sci-Am article carried with it”again, at least in the U.S. No, the world didnt wake up to peak oil over night after the article was published, but it generated more interest than any document written during the previous two decades.

[Blog World Hunger] Rising Food Prices: What Should Be Done?: First, in the short run, developing-country governments should expand social protection programs (that is, safety net programs like food or income transfers and nutrition programs focused on early childhood) for the poorest people”both urban and rural. Some of the poorest people in developing countries are not well connected to markets and thus will feel few effects from rising food prices, but the much higher international prices could mean serious hardship for millions of poor urban consumers and poor rural residents who are net food buyers, when they actually are exposed to them.

[The Oil Drum - Discussions about Energy and Our Future] DrumBeat: September 11, 2007: In their reporting on the world oil situation, they have consistently and uncritically swallowed the public relations handouts of Daniel Yergin's Cambridge Energy Research Group (CERA), a wholly-owned PR shop serving the oil industry.
