[Daffodil Lane] San Francisco was the first U.S. city to host the annual conference. Much of the conference focused on global warming and what mayors can do to curb emissions of "greenhouse gases" such as carbon dioxide that trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere.

[Montgomery County, MD Green Party Blog] Sam Smiths Talk to the Green Party of Montgomery County, MD, May 14, 2005: The Socialist Party is the most dramatic example, with a history dating back over 100 years. By World War I it had elected 70 mayors, two members of Congress, and numerous state and local officials. Milwaukee alone had three Socialist mayors in the last century, including Frank Zeidler who held office for 12 years ending as late as 1960. And let us not forget Bernie Sanders who stands an excellent chance of being our first socialist senator, a fact, come to think of it, the right will never let us forget.
[YONGARAMA] Essential New Yorker: For NYC's x-treme karaoke elite, it's Winnie's or death. This cheesy, dingy Chinatown bar offers a dizzying array of tunes for a buck a pop. Treat the crowd of hipsters and decompressing Wall Streeters to "Bohemian Rhapsody" the way the gods of embarrassment intended. And don't forget to be extremely altered on something.”Noah Tarnow

"I think certainly the public is within their right, in this case, to believe they were misled."Just in case Lockhart has forgotten, the Newsweek article claimed a Koran had been flushed down a toilet. As it turns out, it was the detainees who attempted to flush a Koran, not the guards.
[Boingboing.net] Boing Boing: October 2003: I'm in Barcelona at the 14th annual edition of Artfutura, a yearly conference on technology, art, and culture. Apart from being a mindblowingly beautiful city, filled with architecture that makes you feel like you've just dropped acid, Barcelona is home to a thriving community of bloggers. This afternoon, I'll be moderating a live discussion with the Spanish blogging community, and special US guests Anil Dash and Meg Hourihan. Tune in here!
[Ojaiblog.com] ojai blog - news and events in the Ojai community: May 2005: Google is quirky. This blog gets about half its traffic from Google searches. Visitors show up in bunches for topical issues such as the Matilija Dam removal or the Ojai Parcel Tax. I also get visitors from outside-the-valley searches such as thanks for the fish and Audra Strickland. Oddly, I've received dozens of visitors on a Google search for new LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa - ojaiblog.com places as high as 4th on a search for the guy.
