Kicking the Can on Climate Change - Reason Magazine

[Reason Magazine Full Feed] After the Durban conference adopted its “roadmap,” the EuropeanUnion agreed to keep a rump version of the Kyoto Protocol alive byimposing further greenhouse gas emission reductions on itstaxpayers through 2017. As a side note, a November report by theSwiss bank UBS found that implementing Europe’s carbon market underthe Kyoto Protocol has resulted in almost zero low-carboninnovations in energy production while imposing about $280 billionin additional costs on European consumers.

Australian climate change chief turns away from Kyoto-style pact ...

[cop15.dk News] Hand told the Sydney Morning Herald that the “world is very different” from when the Kyoto pact entered into force in 2005. The Kyoto Protocol is linked to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and sets binding targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Environmentalism and Germany

And yes, Europe does "have the view that America is part of what's gone wrong in the world." We do not think like Europeans, we actually admire and try to promote people who mean what they say and do what they say they will do. Europe votes for and ignores Kyoto and is praised around the world while America votes down Kyoto but refuses to plan for future energy needs, hoping for some magic energy dart of a solution.

Backtracks on the Kyoto Pact

exxon makes a cold calculation on global warming

[LarsonsWorld | just another persons waste of time] Along with the Bush administration, Exxon opposes the Kyoto accord and the very idea of capping global-warming emissions. Congress is debating an energy bill that may be amended to include a cap, but the administration and Exxon say the costs would be huge and the benefits uncertain.
