The Green Files > iPhones, App Stores and Ecosystems - O'Reilly Broadcast

[Feedburner: O'Reilly Digital Media: Mac] Finally, when you listen to the analysts prognosticating the good, bad and ugly of Apple as an investment, keep in the back of your mind that the financial market really hasn't a clue on the economic and competitive impact of the App Store. When they finally figure that one out, I expect Apple's stock to see a positive pop.

[Bill Steven Carl 全球网站-----中国区及大中华区总站] Mobile OS shootout: iPhone OS 3.0 enters the fray手机操作系统大 ...: Palm is smartly introducing a web-centric functionality called Synergy in its webOS, which allows you to pool contacts and calendars from disparate sources, while the iPhone OS, BlackBerry OS, Windows Mobile, S60, and Android still present mostly siloed options in that department (without some third-party involvement). Apple has made strides with its new calendar functionality -- CalDAV support, for example -- but it still doesn't present anything as revolutionary for dealing with scores of contacts.

[Computerworld Blogs - Mobile & Wireless] Apple iPhone 3.0 event tomorrow might reveal a tablet ...: The timing?  Well, if this thing has to be put on a device in late Summer, Apple will probably want some software to run on it...probably even an App Store.  If so, developers will need at least a few months to get their apps to run on this new little device.  That means they should probably start right about now.

[PalmAddicts] (PrÄ“)dicting Palm success: better app store: Apple’s iPhone indeed has set a high standard for other smartphones to look up to with its integrated App Store, a user friendly ecosystem from purchasing and download to installing apps into the iPhone. RIM’s newly announced own app store called App World is also trying to achieve what Apple’s App Store has got today, although RIM sets out with a different approach to do that.

[Normocephalic/Atraumatic] Smartphones for Med Students: Media playback is mediocre, web browsing is sub-par, and the medical app ecosystem is scanty at best. Windows Mobile: So-so. Windows Mobile has always had a very strong developer community, so there are a lot of medical applications ...

[Emerging Communications Blog] Andreas Constantinou on Mobile OS's and App Stores: There is what appears to be significant movement at Qualcomm B and behind this Brew mobile platform, the new mobile platform they announced a few months ago, for which unfortunately, there isn't enough detail out yet on what exactly is being planned. There are discussions about a deep integration of Flash on Brew, but what is not clear is what is the future for UiOne, how will Flash interact with UiOne commercially, and generally, I would say there is some uncertainty for Brew as an OS.

[Thinkings and Musings :: David Lyness] Cydia: the story so far”¦: UI they have created for their users - I’ve witnessed a couple of people who have royally crapped up their iPhone by putting some ridiculously ugly colours on it using Winterboard.  However, things like copy-paste, video recording… this should be built in by default, right?  (That’s another question that I won’t get into here.)  Anyway, Cydia currently remains the only possible way (abeit unofficial) to get these extremely useful utilities onto your phone.

[TheAppleBlog] Initial Thoughts on iPhone OS 3.0: There has been more innovation in the cell phone industry in the last two years than there has been in the last 10 because of Apple. People need to stop following some of these so called big names in tech because they have no idea what they are talking about yet somehow they became popular.

[DaniWeb IT Discussion Community] iPhone Preview Smacks of Pre Smack Down: If Apple feels they can defend a patent seriously it is possible that the Pre could be with held from market causing tremendous financial stress at Palm and Sprint. And if the Pre is considered to much for the iPhone to over come or a patent dispute becomes ugly - remember Apple has 28 BILLION Dollars in CASH, Palm's Market Value is less than 1 Billion, Apple could offer a 500% premium and never miss the money.

[vSocial Blog] vSocial Blog » Blog Archive » iPhones, App Stores and Ecosystems: Will it provide visibility into the next hardware refresh of the iPhone and iPod touch?  Will it be the point when they introduce new form factors of devices powered by the platform, such as a tablet/netbook sized iPod Touch HD?  Perhaps it’s the moment, when they will begin supercharging Apple TV with the iPhone’s platform and ecosystem goodness.

[SuperSite Blog - All Comments] Dell Adamo. Spare me - SuperSite Blog: It attacks a niche that, frankly, is best left alone (and to Apple), especially given what's going on in the world these days. More generally, however, the Adamo is emblematic of what's wrong at Dell: They're so busy copying what they see as cool and hip that they've lost sight of the fact that they should be doing their own thing.

[oQlz Blog] In Depth: Tested: Chrome vs IE8 vs Firefox 3.1 vs Safari 4 | oQlz Blog: InterfaceWINNER: ChromeOf all the browsers, Safari's interface is the most improved: Apple has dumped the OS X interface, which looked plain weird on Windows, and essentially copied Chrome but with the tab bar and address bar scaled down a bit. it's really quite ugly.
