The Green Files > Hydrogen Cars: Saving the Environment's a Gas | Xconomy

[Xconomy] Cruising north on Interstate-5 in a Chevy Equinox hardly sounds like a reason to be excited, but I felt lighter than air yesterday. That may just be an effect of the hydrogen fueling the car, or perhaps just the giddy sensation that comes from driving the future of General Motors on the same day their future looks so uncertain.

[GM-VOLT : Chevy Volt Electric Car Site] Has Hydrogen Run Out of Gas? | GM-VOLT : Chevy Volt Electric Car Site: Dave in 163 uses this quote - The large amount of energy required to isolate hydrogen from natural compounds (water, natural gas, biomass), package the light gas by compression or liquefaction, transfer the energy carrier to the user, plus the energy lost when it is converted to useful electricity with fuel cells, leaves around 25% for practical use ”” an unacceptable value to run an economy in a sustainable future. Only niche applications like submarines and spacecraft might use hydrogen

[Joel Makower: Two Steps Forward] Joel Makower: Two Steps Forward: Is GM Reviving the Electric Car?: Overall average fuel economy from the Big 6 is worse today that it was 10 years ago and GM is still heavily dependent on its gas guzzling truck lines. In addition to that they are still fighting tooth-and-nail against increasing fuel economy regulations, suing states that try to limit greenhouse gas emissions, and in December argued before the Supreme Court that carbon from tailpipe emissions was not even a pollutant.

[Uncommon Descent] Global Warming Alarmists Wrong Again | Uncommon Descent: I also find it disengenuous that many radical environmentalists still insist on limiting nuclear energy as an alternative to our reliance on fossil fuels. Since we all as humans have a present day fascination with preserving our environment, we most assuredly will find a viable solution to the problem of nuclear waste.

[GM FastLane] The Week That Was | GM FastLane: I found it amazing that he even takes the time to write to us sometimes and to read the blog sometimes. And I know if he does, it is because to him it is important to hear different ideas and opinions, to understand what the market wants but all the information he has to take it with a grab or I can guarantee you, it would just be a process of ideas and opinions and nothing would ever be done.

[drive blog] drive blog: Holden Epica faces uphill battle: So when Holden decides to discontinue a model because it hasn't been recognised for what it actually is and offered, people and the media jump down Holden's throat because they have opted to source a vehicle from a company which is now owned by GM and Holden people demand a better car. Well SORRY the Vectra is not the car to be pinned up aganinst the Epica, just because it falls into the medium sector doesn't mean it is a direct replacement because if the Vectra was in the Epica's price range the other vehicles on the market would not stand a chance in terms of quality, finish, equipment level, refinement etc.

[POLITICO Top Stories] Ben Smith's Blog: Paris Hilton responds. Really. - Politico.com: The Britney/Paris analogue in the race is McCain: he, like they, got rather far on extremely limited talent and huge amounts of marketing, and is now desperately trying to cling to celebrity with more and more extreme antics that get him ink but offend and sadden his fans. And that explains the raw hatred that McCain and his handlers display towards Obama: it's the hatred of the has-been (especially a has-been who never was much in the first place, a mere celebrity, like Britney rather than an actual star, like Madonna) for the person (especially the person of egregiously superior talent) she passes on the rising escalator as she herself takes the long, long ride down to well-deserved obscurity and mall openings.
