The Green Files > Greenversations Question of the Week: What does “environmentalism ...

[Greenversations] Environmentalism to me is recoginizing that each day we live on this planet the choices we make have an impact on our environment as well as on the people in that environment. In recoginizing that we impact our environment we not only think about our choices but we use our voices to come together to ring loud and clear in the minds of those who have yet to learn and embrace environmentalism, by doing so we create change.

[nothing comes from nothing] The Ethics of IR Theorizing :: nothing comes from nothing: 4)   Universal Progression of Humanity (Universal Historicism/Universal Temporality) - In IR theory (particularly discourses of globalization), it is very familiar to come across the notion of a common progression of humanity toward one end-state (”˜kitsch Kantianism’ as R.B.J. Walker (1993: 181) has deftly named it).  Under this assumption, human nature (identity, difference, culture more generally) is merged into a universal sameness.  Forms of historicism often reproduce what Dipesh Chakrabarty has called the “waiting room version of history”.  That is, groups, nations and individuals from the “third-world” are often (sometimes implicitly) considered to be moving toward (and favouring) a move on a direct temporal line toward “Western” progress.

[Blogs and Tips - SustainLane] I'm no environmentalist - Go Green - SustainLane: I’ve met too many young “environmentalists” who can’t tell a mockingbird from a thrasher and who couldn’t identify five trees in their neighborhood, who recycle religiously but don’t keep the Sabbath, who hang out in good environments and never in bad ones, who buy green stuff instead of less stuff, and who’ve never been fishing or hunting or even berry-picking. Getting people converted to a cause is far easier than building a community swallowed up in the idea of following Jesus the Gardener, the Reconciler, the Sustainer.

[China Environmental Law] Oops Somebody Goofed: But wait, there’s more, this must be where the good stuff is, a section entitled “Climate Change Policy Dialogue and Cooperation.”  It begins “the parties have decided to establish a Climate Change Policy Dialogue and Cooperation as a platform for the United States and China to address global climate change and to identify and resolve areas of concern.”  Except for that “have decided” touch (seems much too spontaneous), this reads like typically bland and pointless international agreementese.  Why do you need to establish a “Dialogue”

[TRANSPORTATION] TRANSPORTATION Blog | The Dallas Morning News: If the trooper elects to stand in the middle of the heavy traffic - frankly, it is his problem and choice to be suicidal. [Hot Air » Top Picks] Hot Air » Blog Archive » Quotes of the day: Granted, I’m only half way through it but what is most striking to me about the language of HR 3200 is that you could remove the words “healthcare” throughout the entire thing and substitute in your pet project of choice (education, environmental protection, border enforcement, national defense) and it reads the same - big government expansion that will require a lot of funding. Only very small pieces of it directly relate to healthcare and it’s practices.
