The Green Files > Global warming?

[Global Warming & Climate Change] Global Warming is phenomenon due to which the excessive deposition of CO2 and other poisonous gases from Vehicles and Factories cause the polar ice to melt and there will be increase in sea-level whcih will cause submergence of land.

[Climate Progress] Disputing the 'consensus' on global warming « Climate Progress: (natural and human-made) explain most of the changes in our climate and temperature both in recent decades and over the past millions of years. The primary human-made forcings are the heat-trapping greenhouse gases we generate, particularly carbon dioxide from burning coal, oil and natural gas.

[http://www.xdela.com] Will the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico affect global warming at ...: I was wondering if the oil spill from the Gulf of Mexico may reach the North or South poles and start melting ice? As far as global warming and ice caps, if the oil does get into the Gulf Stream, and most computer models show it doing just that, then the local temp change that I described above could occur in the far North Atlantic, too.

[truthout] t r u t h o u t | NASA Scientists Find Strongest Evidence for ...:     The summer Arctic sea ice, for the past four years in a row, also has melted far more than average, based on satellite data. If the summer ice continues to melt at that rate, they said, the Arctic could be ice-free in the summer by the end of the century.

[Watts Up With That?] Arctic Albedo | Watts Up With That?: The point being that open water in the Arctic might be created by Global Warming, but it might not contribute to additional warming because open water at that lattitude would reflect much of the sunlight that isn’t already absorbed by the additional atmosphere that it has to travel through at such low angles to the surface. Am I smoking medicinal herbs here?

[Axel and Sophie Steenbergs Blog: News, Views and Chat about Spices, Tea, Recipes and the Environment] How Do Global Warming, Greenhouse Gases And The Earth's Orbit All ...: Liu et al have measured oxygen-18 in stalagmites in several caves in China.  Water containing oxygen-18 is heavier than normal oxygen-16 and so condenses more easily, so heavy monsoonal air loses much of its oxygen-18 as it moves inland and each year a record is left on the stalagmites.  As each glacial period ends, the summer monsoons became much weaker than normally and so the oxygen-18 levels in stalagmites increased.  Their evidence showed that monsoons failed in the last four glacial terminations, or as they write “[t]his climate pattern, broadly resembling other cave records from China, appears to correlate with multi-decadal to millennial changes in Greenland temperature and the general pattern of the wind-borne calcium ion record in the ice.”  In fact, work on a stalagmite from the Dongge Cave in China agrees exactly (within error) with the Vostok ice core records of Petit et al, showing methane rise in the atmosphere at 129,000BP.

[Dvorak Uncensored] » IPCC Member Says IPCC Global Warming “Consensus” Was Phony ...: Because one of the opening statements, which I’m sure you’ve probably heard is “Well you can’t attribute a single event to climate change.” But there is a systematic influence on all of these weather events now-a-days because of the fact that there is this extra water vapor lurking around in the atmosphere than there used to be say 30 years ago. It’s about a 4% extra amount, it invigorates the storms, it provides plenty of moisture for these storms and it’s unfortunate that the public is not associating these with the fact that this is one manifestation of climate change.

[abitare's Blog] Global Warming: Are 31000 Skeptical Scientists Wrong?:  I'm neither left or right, as I've stated, mostly because they only address a small segment of the spectrum of possible argument, and insinuate that their little 30 degree slice of the reality pie is the only spectrum of acceptable argument. The other 330 degrees is left unexplored because there really are no choices, just the illusion of choice.

[RealClimate] RealClimate: A conclusion of the 4th International Polar Year: The Arctic Ocean had much thinner ice last winter, along with the thinner ice, more leads, thinner ice means more heat from the Arctic Ocean released during the long night along with great heat injections from more numerous leads. So last winter was a warm one over the Arctic and Canada, not strictly because of planetary wave configuration, but because it was cloudy, either in the Arctic or Canada, especially enhanced by El-Nino giving more clouds, what I call ‘anvil seeding’

[Watts Up With That?Watts Up With That?] Arctic Ocean ice retreating at 30-year record pace | Watts Up With ...: curve has an arbitrary standard deviation, fixed at a constant value for every month, whether the ice is shrinking, growing, or stable, which is probabilistically impossible and statistically unethical to use the fixed error method. So almost every measurement during melt times exceeds a standard deviation to the low side (because of the heteroskedastic nature of the distribution), sometimes 2 sigmas, because as the rate of change at any high melt month has large swings, it will swamp the fixed error for the entire record (that is averaged for shrinking, growing, and stable periods inclusive, not just melt times) almost every time.
