[Sevens] Yes, "In America there are voices that deride and deny the importance of Europe." And yes, Europe does "have the view that America is part of what's gone wrong in the world." We do not think like Europeans, we actually admire and try to promote people who mean what they say and do what they say they will do. Europe votes for and ignores Kyoto and is praised around the world while America votes down Kyoto but refuses to plan for future energy needs, hoping for some magic energy dart of a solution.

[Carbon Trader] RBC unveils worldwide carbon trading capabilities to help industry ...: Capped entities are issued allowances equal to their capped amount. If a capped emitter produces less than the permits allocated to it, the surplus is a carbon credit that can be sold to another emitter or on the open market, or retained for future use.
[Sweet Cantarella] I like this man's style!: In this century, we need a strong European Union that deepens the security and prosperity of this continent, while extending a hand abroad. In this century - in this city of all cities - we must reject the Cold War mind-set of the past, and resolve to work with Russia when we can, to stand up for our values when we must, and to seek a partnership that extends across this entire continent.
[Climex News Update] "Avoiding Deforestation to Limit Climate Change 'Cheap and Practical': Now, the avoided deforestation cost estimates produced by Sohngen and his team could be used in ongoing negotiations toward a successor agreement to the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012. UN officials are aiming to complete the successor agreement by December 2009 to allow time for it to be ratified before the Kyoto Protocol expires.
[The Green Blog] Finding a green response to trash: It's not just an American problem!: By comparison, Europe has been viewed as some sort of environmental city on a hill, a perfect land where everybody recycles, public transportation rules the roost, and there is perfect harmony.
[Global Dashboard] Kicking Kyoto: Now you may wish to argue that EU emissions would have risen faster were it not for Kyoto, or that prospective EU policies will quickly reverse the increase in emissions among EU 15 members excluding the UK and Germany. But it seems to me that unless you are prepared to argue that Kyoto had something to do with Margaret Thatcher’s politically motivated dismantling of the coal industry in the 1980’s and the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc, you ought to concede the point that Kyoto, and Kyoto motivated policies have, to date, failed to reduce EU emissions.
[1read's Weblog] THE WORLD today!: John McCain, presumtive Republican nominee, calls for a mandatory limit on greenhouse gas emissions in the United States and Obama, the Democratic candidate, is also strongly supporting plans for a clean energy future, increasing investments in renewable fuels, and considers climate change as one of the greatest moral challenges of our generation! The Kyoto protocol, ratified by over 166 countries, but not by the Bush Administration, entered into force in February 2005 and is due to end in 2012, and the US, mayor developing countries and big polluters like Brazil, China and India become fully engaged in signing up to a post-2012 agreement, centred on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change/UNFCCC, which is scheduled to finish in late 2009, having G8 leaders agreed to consider and adopt the goal of achieving at least 50% reduction of global emission by 2050, but not yet assuming any short term commitments. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown listed climate change to the greatest threats to Britain’s peace, as are war, terrorism, disease and poverty. Lights were switched off across Australia last night at 8pm for Earth Hour, drawing mixed results and reviews.
[Comments for Get Drunk And Vote 4 mccain] Comment on McCain Endorses Obama At The NAACP by David: Thanks for reminding us that both our candidates are Quislings committed to aiding the Reconquista Invasion of our Southern Border, and that Hussein feels it’s the responsibility of the Citizens of Greatest Country and Only Superpower in the World to learn Mexican and European rather than the reverse. Thanks for reminding us that both candidates seem to want to suck Euro asz rather than tell the World to Get the Hell out of the Way or get BLOWN the Hell out of the Way.
[The Edwards Report] Jene blöden Deutschen!: Peters does not understand the opposition, albeit understated, of conservative Chancellor and Bush ally Angela Merkel, to the speech. He writes “the chancellor seems to feel an instinctive sympathy, perhaps rooted in her having grown up in East Germany, for such staunchly right-wing and rather gruff figures of American politics as George W. Bush and John McCain .
[1read's Weblog] THE WORLD today!: Pope Benedict XVI said the world needed to care for the environment, but not to the point where the welfare of animals and plants was given a greater priority than that of mankind, attacking climate change prophets of doom, warning that any solution to global warming must be based on firm evidence and on an agreement of sustainable development capable of ensuring the well-being of all while respecting environmental balances. According to the International Energy Agency/IEA the world needs to invest about $45 Trillion in energy in coming decades, build some 1.400 nuclear power plants and vastly expand wind power in order to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and prevent energy shortages, within a new global energy revolution, transforming the way we produce and use energy.
[Health and Environment Alliance] European Parliament Agora on Climate Change, June 12 -13: We must take our responsibility for the next generations, and the European Union must be the leader in this struggle", said European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pöttering, adding that "this Agora is the way the European Parliament wants to answer to those concerns and reinstitute a tradition from ancient Greece".
[The Foundry] Morning Bell: The World Is Powering Up While America Powers Down: That is why around the world, from Europe to South America to Asia, countries are building coal and nuclear power plants at a dizzying pace while also drilling for oil wherever they can find it.
