The Green Files > Disputing the 'consensus' on global warming « Climate Progress

[Climate Progress] in the public discussion of global warming is that it creates a simple strategy for doubters to confuse the public, the press and politicians: Simply come up with as long a list as you can of scientists who dispute the theory. After all, such disagreement is prima facie proof that no consensus of opinion exists.

[2020 Climate Leadership Campaign] Disputing the 'consensus' on global warming - Science is in many ...: I’ve met lots of people like CNBC anchor Joe Kernen, who simply can’t believe that “as old as the planet is” that “puny, gnawing little humans” could possibly change the climate in “70 years.”

[Buy Carbon Credits | Buy Carbon Offsets] Buy Carbon Offsets | Disputing the 'consensus' on global warming ...: (natural and human-made) explain most of the changes in our climate and temperature both in recent decades and over the past millions of years. The primary human-made forcings are the heat-trapping greenhouse gases we generate, particularly carbon dioxide from burning coal, oil and natural gas.

[Watts Up With That?Watts Up With That?] New Dogs; Old Tricks: | Watts Up With That?: Q158 Dr Harris: The Institute of Physics say””and this is quite strong”””The CRU e-mails as published on the internet provide prima face evidence of determined and co-ordinated refusals to comply with honourable scientific traditions and freedom of information law.” That is partly, I suppose, coming back to transparency, but what is your view on that? Do you think the emails reveal anything that you may be vulnerable on or are you confident that the emails, if looked at as a whole, will clear you as it were in the review?

[Crooked Timber] Advanced agnotology ”” Crooked Timber: The point is not that vicious liars are vicious liars (breaking: Liz Cheney makes shit up!)The point is that zombie lies are spread by people who are not themselves zombies (or vicious liars)—and who can be motivated by desires that allow them to suspend disbelief (and self-knowledge) so that they can “make a difference.”

[Scientific Blogging] A Global Warming Skeptic Clouds The Issues: On the offchance that someone misinterprets your tone, Roy Spencer is no skeptic. One who doubts Spencer's work might be a skeptic, but Spencer is a highly qualified scientist who is researching climate data and putting his results out for the world to read, and critisize as they may.

[Climate Progress] Re-discredited climate denialists in denial « Climate Progress: Actually, the subhead should be revised: “Global warming denialists have been re-discredited, but you wouldn't know it from the rhetoric in today's Wall Street Journal.” Far be it from me, a non-scientist, to dispute the scientific expertise of an MIT ....

[WEE See You...] Thursday Open Thread ”” Keeping Our Eyes on African Americans: Our ...: What's remarkable is that one Republican after another is taking to the floor to dispute that global warming or climate change is occurring at all, that it wouldn't matter if it was occurring, and that we're powerless to do anything about it anyway.

[The Unbearable Nakedness of CLIMATE CHANGE] The Unextricable Incompleteness Of Nature « The Unbearable ...: “Most of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations.12 This is an advance since the TAR’s conclusion that “most of the observed warming over the last 50 years is likely to have been due to the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations”. Discernible human influences now extend to other aspects of climate, including ocean warming, continental-average temperatures, temperature extremes and wind patterns.”

[Latest entries from BlueOregon] Global Warming Deniers: Wanna Bet? - BlueOregon: Another problem is that we're all convinced that global "warming" is the problem when the larger underlying problem is actually more generically "climate change." When you force the climate system the way we're doing with atmospheric CO2 increases, you force a very dynamic change and in some regards an unpredictable change. We may actually end up warming the globe for a while which then results in the shutting down of the ocean conveyor belt (global oceanic currents that establish climate circulation patterns- too many melting glaciers will reduce the salinity of surface water in the North Atlantic and prevent the sinking of that water which drives circulation globally) which may actually trigger substantial cooling either regionally or perhaps even globally...

[Reason Magazine Full Feed] A Climate Change Team B? - Hit & Run : Reason Magazine: On a broader note, since AGW proponents demand that colossalmodifications be made to the economies of the world, that nationalsovereignties be overridden and that vast transfers of wealth takeplace and that all of these changes must be made as quickly aspossible, it is the responsibility of the AGW proponents to providerock-solid arguments developed, presented and debated in aperfectly transparent way as to why. What I see AGW proponentsdoing is insisting that "experts" have already debated and settledeverything, that the public need not and should not be involved andthat anyone who questions their motives or the policies that theyare advocating should be marginalized, censure and/or ignored.

[Collide-a-scape» Collide-a-scape >> Keith Kloor's Blog >> Where Nature and Culture Intersect] Collide-a-scape » Blog Archive » Collide-a-scape >> A Trench View ...: Having said that, here’s my truncated take on the sciences relevant to CC: In my experience, with regard to AGW the policy consequences of our current state of scientific knowledge and data, the risk spectrum, are unusually clear. The debates y’all are engaged in are particularly heated because the outputs of contemporary climate and geosciences are extraordinarily consequential for human civilization, not because the science itself is imbued with unusually significant uncertainties (and certainly not fraud).

[Outersite.org] Outersite.org » Blog Archive » House of Commons Science and ...: All science should be sceptical and the sharing of data and methods is fundamental to proving an hypothesis.  The UEA should be censured for failing to ensure that scientific principles were adhered to by CRU.  Resort to FOI requests should be superfluous in the field of scientific study, particularly one that is so heavily publicly funded and has such significant consequences for the UK and the rest of the world.  The Met Office’s Hadley Centre and CRU are central to the man-made global warming agenda and need to be subject to rigorous scrutiny to ensure that public policy is formulated on the basis of the best knowledge available.  Clearly, much of the uncertainty surrounding the claimed influence of human CO2 emissions is suppressed by the IPCC and in public debate.

[Hit & Run] Al Gore Breaks Silence on Global Warming Fiascos (Fiasci?) - Hit ...: To my untrained and never-interested eye, Gore seems to make agame effort to handle in turn each of the recent debacles in theglobal warming consensus. I find Al Gore so essentially repellentthat I can't fairly judge his success or failure here, so hash itout among yourselves.
