[International Rivers Sitewide RSS Feed] Offsets and the Truthy Targets of Waxman-Markey | International Rivers: EPA calculates that there are simply not enough emissions from farms, ranches and forests that can be mitigated at costs below those of reducing industrial pollution to make it attractive to polluters to use all allowable domestic offsets. EPA assumes that emissions from landfills and coal-mine methane would be reduced through regulations and therefore not available for offsetting - but if EPA is wrong and these sectors are allowed to generate offsets, it calculates that domestic credit supply could soar by 45%.

[Paul Krugman] Temperature trends - Paul Krugman Blog - NYTimes.com: to me is superimposing three trends: 1) A modest underlying warming trend as we crawl out of the centuries-long Little Ice Age (approx warming trendline seen 1850-1910), 2) An oscillating warming/cooling trend caused by shifts in AMO/PDO, and 3) a man-made warming trend which is very weak before 1900, weak until ~1940, stronger after 1940 due to both GHG emissions and land use changes. From 1910-1940 you get #1 positive, #2 positive, #3 weakly positive for some pretty steep warming resulting in huge numbers of record highs from 1936-1944 or so.

[The American Spectator and AmSpecBlog] The American Spectator : Lights Out: When people see their electric bills increase, when they see the price of consumer goods increase, and when they see more manufacturing jobs scamper off to Mexico and China then you'll hear Obama and Pelosi start talking about "greedy businesses". Your electric bill won't say "Global Warming Tax - $75", you'll never be able to decipher the amount.

[FiveThirtyEight: Politics Done Right] FiveThirtyEight: Politics Done Right: Obama's (Unintentionally ...: . The prospects for passage of a climate in the Senate can probably be reasonably be inferred by exactly what happens in the House. Specifically, Democrats will get to see how many Blue Dogs vote for the bill and how many Republicans do. If the bill gets the support of, say, all but a dozen Blue Dogs as well as handful of moderate Republicans, you can envision a route toward passage in the Senate. If it passes by a bare majority in the House, on the other hand, it is unlikely to overcome a Senate filibuster. And if it the bill entirely fails to pass, it's back to the drawing board and the Democrats will know they'll have to make more compromises.

[The Confluence] News for those not Interested in Death and Sex Watches « The ...: Among the many reasons President Barack Obama and the Democratic majority are so intent on quickly jamming a cap-and-trade system through Congress is because the global warming tide is again shifting. It turns out Al Gore and the United Nations (with an assist from the media), did a little too vociferous a job smearing anyone who disagreed with them as “deniers.”

[US Message Board - Political Discussion Forum] Al Gore's Global Warming Cash Cow... - US Message Board ...: That something is cap n trade - the creation of which will make Gore's already substantial wealth increase greatly. He is in bed with the likes of Soros, GM, various Hollywood mogul investors (who created all of the Gore film hype) and on and on and on - it is a sham for Gore to pretend his environmental interests are simply out of the interests of the world.

[Dancing With Fools] FRYDAY FUNEES « Dancing With Fools: “The Environmental Protection Agency projects that by 2020, coal usage in America under the terms of the bill will actually grow. ”¦ The claims of opponents that the CO2 controls under the bill will force utilities to surrender coal use, causing an overreliance on natural gas, with attendant broad economic harm to the nation, are also simply wrong.”

[The Confluence] Saturday Morning Coffee and Links « The Confluence: In the wake of reports by congressional Democrats that CIA director Leon Panetta has acknowledged to members of Congress that the CIA has misled Congress, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough noted on July 9 that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi -- whom he called "a friend of mine from Congress" -- "caught a lot of grief"

[lgf 2.0: blogmocracy.com] » Is Charles “Icarus” Johnson supporting Cap and Trade? >> lgf 2.0 ...: Charles Johnson, owner of Little Green Footballs (famous for destroying Dan Rather’s career in television and… that’s about it), has undergone something very much like this in recent years, burning bridges with every single one of his former conservative associates (possibly with good reason depending on who you ask), banning any dissent and any members of his site who disagree with, or “down ding”, his own posts or those of favoured commenters and repeatedly threatening to “out”

[Puma PAC] Mad Genius and Troubled Soul: I want to hear that people are getting busy signals for ten minutes at a time. I worry, given the short attention span of the American people and the obvious distractions out there in the form of Michael Jackson’s death and the looming health care debate, this disastrous cap-and-trade bill will slide on through because our elected officials believe we won’t notice.
