The Green Files > Another "Peak Oil" Movie
[sustainablog] Much like The Deal and Oil Storm before it, Syriana is a movie in which bad things happen as a result of fuel shortages. Unlike those two movies, however, Syriana is a big budget Warner Brothers film starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Jeffrey Wright, Chris Cooper and a bunch of other big names.

[The Oil Drum | A Community Discussion about Peak Oil] Syriana: the next oil awareness movie: Much like The Deal and Oil Storm before it, Syriana is a movie in which bad things happen as a result of fuel shortages. Unlike those two movies, however, Syriana is a big budget Warner Brothers film starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Jeffrey Wright, Chris Cooper and a bunch of other big names.
M O B J E C T I V I S T: Even if it didn't have anything to do with the global oil industry (which it does), I would see it because some have compared it favorably to the classic plot-lines and counter-cultural sensibility of movies from the 1970's -- a decade that arguably contained the apex of cinema creativity. (I won't get my hopes up too high though.) (via Cosmos)
Peak Oil News: As a result, it isn't in wide release: it's currently playing at a few theaters in Boston, Chicago, LA, New York, San Francisco and DC. Reviews from major papers are linked on the site, and most are positive. (via Cosmos)
Treehugger: Consider that it is an independent movie with a limited release in a few select cities and that a wider release depends on how well the movie does at the beginning. So please, if you are in one of the cities listed on the website, consider giving it a chance and maybe you'll help the rest of us see it in our cities. (via Cosmos)
baloghblog: Energy companies have been trucking fuel in from various parts of the US to restock pumps that ran dry in Texas, following two hurricanes that struck the heart of the nation's energy infrastructure and a massive evacuation that cut into much-needed supplies. This has stretched already tight national petrol supplies. (via Cosmos)
Me? Sarcastic? Stop...: Oil Storm, which I actually wrote a little about, was a fictional movie shot like an after-the-fact documentary. It was about Hurricane Julia, a massive storm that destroyed Gulf Coast ports and the oil pipeline connecting them to the rest of the country, effectively cutting off the supply of quite a bit fo crude in September 2005 (the movie aired in June). [Lifelikepundits.com] Lifelike Pundits: Category Archives: Or, does the mainstream media feel threatened because blogs show the public an institutional laziness based mostely in groupthink and an elitist mentality. I offer as an example the due-diligence that bloggers perform in actually verifying accuracy (like the fake memos used by CBS and Dan Rather) or verifying their source (like the Terri Schiavo memo from the office of Mel Martinez)."
[Libertyfilmfestival.com] LIBERTAS: Extra features will include: a seven-part documentary on the making of the film, a documentary on Kong director (and creator) Merian C. Cooper, a trailer gallery of Cooper’s other films, and a commentary from stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen, actress Terry Moore (Mighty Joe Young ) and special effects master Ken Ralston (Star Wars ).
[Fortunecity.com] The Matt Damon Column - July 2004 Archive: Despite having spent the last year filming ''The Brothers Grimm'' with director Terry Gilliam in Prague, then ''Supremacy'' in Berlin, Damon has managed to stay in the American public eye, thanks to manic tabloid coverage of the filming of his other film, the Steven Soderbergh sequel ''Ocean's Twelve,'' in Rome (check out Damon kissing his girlfriend, Miami bartender Luciana Barroso! Watch costars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Damon go Jet Skiing!)
