The Green Files > A Funny Thing to Say About Global Warming

[ZUckerVaTi.cOM - Missing Links] [skeptics] totally failed to highlight this one though - I wonder why? This is the quote - "we are not claiming that the present concept of global warming is flawed. We are convinced that greenhouse gases are accumulating in the air, and strongly believe that near-surface temperatures are rising in response"

[Stephen Gloor] A Funny Thing to Say About Global Warming: Anyway highlighted through the text of the article are such statements as "This warming was followed by a global cooling, thought to be an indication of a new ice age" and "Thus, studies of climate change are bound to be characterized by high uncertainty".  The usual stuff that skeptics like.  They totally failed to highlight this one though - I wonder why? This is the quote - "we are not claiming that the present concept of global warming is flawed.  We are convinced that greenhouse gases are accumulating in the air, and strongly believe that near-surface temperatures are rising in response"

[TSI: Unlimited] Cold Fusion: This should not damp the enthusiasm though. If the result is indeed true, it will bring hope that cold fusion could one day be feasible alternative to fission reactor (with all its radioactive residue) or coal/oil/gas reactors (with all the greenhouse gas and pollution it produces). Further, fusion also produces X-ray. The small apparatus could then be re-packaged to become handheld X-ray machine, probably a boon in the field of medicine and national security.

[Buddha Rhubarb Butter] According to the 2001 National Academies of Scien...: According to the 2001 National Academies of Science Report on Climate Change, "Greenhouse gases are accumulating in the earth's atmosphere as a result of human activities," and, it continues, "Global warming could well have serious adverse societal and ecological impacts by the end of this century."

[Howling At A Waning Moon] Change in the air, part 4: Heating up the high country: Reduced snowpacks and an earlier peak in springtime runoff have already been observed in some parts of the West, most notably in the Pacific Northwest and lower elevations in California's Sierra Nevada. But it is unclear if those changes, which span several decades, are tied to natural climate variability or greenhouse-induced warming, the Scripps Institution's Cayan said.

[Family Photos] Global Warming: Sometimes, I think the only thing 'proven in the Scientific Community is that nothing is ever proven'.  What I have been reading indicates that the Global Temperature is increasing. Most of the blame is focused on increased carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Even if all countries stopped producing hydro-carbons today, the increase in Global Temperature will continue for several decades.

[Watchingthelake.co.uk] The Traveller - Global Warming Blog: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) warned in a 2003 report that global temperatures were expected to rise due to global warming by up to three degrees Celsius in the next 50 years, raising the snow line and crippling the ski industry. The UNEP report said slopes above altitudes of 1,200 metres (3,940 feet) now considered viable ski areas would be at risk within 30 to 50 years, when skiers would have to trek up to altitudes of 1,500 to 1,800 metres (4,920 to 5,900 feet) for snow. Most of Garmisch's ski and snowboard slopes are between 750 and 2,000 metres (2,460 and 6,560 feet) -- among the highest in Germany. World Cup ski races at a lower Bavarian resort, Berchtesgaden, were cancelled in two of the last five years because of a lack of snow.

[Gamma.net.nz] GAMMA>NET>NZ » Blog Archive » Global warming draw: “As the world warms it is, on average, getting wetter,” said the scientists, who met recently under the banner of Australia’s Cooperative Research Center for Greenhouse Accounting. According to its Web site, the group’s corporate sponsors are Alcoa Alumina Australia, the petroleum giant Royal Dutch/Shell, and Stanwell Corporation Limited, an energy company owned by the state of Queensland.

[Io.com] Viridian Blog: Ralph Cicerone, chancellor of the University of California, Irvine, and chairman of the committee that looked at the climate conundrum, said: "We don't know precisely how much of this [temperature] rise to date is from human activities, but based on physical principles and highly sophisticated computer models, we expect the warming to continue because of greenhouse gas emissions."
