Ottawa urged to press U.S. on climate change

[Financial Post - Top Stories] Unless addressed, a number of Canadian industries might have to buy so-called emissions permits at the U.S. border if Washington deems that Canada's climate-change policies are lacking, the report suggested. The sectors likely most at risk, in terms of trade value, are paper, petrochemicals, plastic materials, iron and steel, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals.

[Peak Oil News] In the executive summary, the IEA concludes that “The long-term global recoverable gas resource base is estimated at more than 850 tcm (850 trillion cubic meters.” That translates to just over 30,000 trillion cubic feet of gas. If one considers the forthcoming UN climate change negotiations in Copenhagen, the issues are as much about compensations, development assistance and finance to developing countries from developed countries as they are about mitigating GGEs. This is as it should be.

Greenpeace maps out new vision for Mediterranean protection

[Untitled] The launch of the Greenpeace 'Mediterranean Marine Governance' proposal coincides with the opening of the Barcelona Convention (BARCON) meeting in Marrakech, Morocco, and calls for BARCON members to become central to a modernized system, enforcing commitments to create a network of marine reserves across the Mediterranean Sea.
