Harvard Bioethics Center

[The Tao of Biotechnology] Harvard Law School has received $10 million to create the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics, to deal with the legal aspects of biotechnology. They plan to discuss such topics as the definition of human life and whether people have the right (or duty, if circumstances warrant) to modify the genes of their offspring.

GM Peas Caused Dangerous Immune Response in Mice

[La Leva di Archimede (ENG)] On top of those, a Bt potato caused abnormal and excessive cell growth in the small intestine of mice.[8] A feeding study with Bt corn called MON 863 caused a significant increase in male rats of three types of blood cells: basophils, lymphocytes (22%) and total white cell counts (20%).[9] This strongly suggests that consuming GM corn caused changes in the immune system. According to GM safety research expert Arpad Pusztai, "A consistent feature of all the studies done, published or unpublished, including MON 863, indicates major problems with changes in the immune status of animals fed on various GM crops/foods, the latest example of this coming from the GM pea research in Australia."[10]

[Treehugger] We know some people that are not very impressed by some of the most common arguments against genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Saying that we don't know what will happen once they are introduced in nature, that they could be invasive, disturb the food chain, that we're going against nature, etc.

Not since the author of Tarka the Otter, Henry Williamson, evangelised for the English landscape and wartime fascism has British political debate seen a more explicit identification of the ecological cause with contempt for democracy.

Terminator Comeback In Monsanto High Lysine GM Corn

[La Leva di Archimede (ENG)] The DHPDS sequence driven by the Glb1 promoter was preceded by two synthetic linker sequences, an intron from rice actin gene and a chloroplast targeting sequence from maize DHPDS gene. In the primary construct was included next to genes for the high lysine trait a loxP (recombination site recognized by Cre recombinase) followed by a CaMV promoter driving a neomycin antibiotic resistance gene along with bleomycin resistance gene with a nos transcription terminator from Agrobacterium followed by another lox site .
