[An Animal-Friendly Life: Vegan links, news, reviews, commentary, and podcasts] Today, five giant multinational agribusiness companies dominate the production and processing of chicken meat in the United States, and, as things seem to be going, especially were the world to be looney enough to adopt genetically modified chickens supposedly resistant to Avian Flu virus, these five companies are about to dominate world chicken supply. The article goes much deeper into the horrors of the industry and discusses how it may successfully exploit birdflu to further globalize their operations, particularly in Asia. A must read.

GM Peas Caused Dangerous Immune Response in Mice

La Leva di Archimede (ENG)[La Leva di Archimede (ENG)] On top of those, a Bt potato caused abnormal and excessive cell growth in the small intestine of mice.[8] A feeding study with Bt corn called MON 863 caused a significant increase in male rats of three types of blood cells: basophils, lymphocytes (22%) and total white cell counts (20%).[9] This strongly suggests that consuming GM corn caused changes in the immune system. According to GM safety research expert Arpad Pusztai, "A consistent feature of all the studies done, published or unpublished, including MON 863, indicates major problems with changes in the immune status of animals fed on various GM crops/foods, the latest example of this coming from the GM pea research in Australia."[10]

Republicans aim to clean up Florida's constitution

[An Animal-Friendly Life] The prohibition on caging gestational pigs was approved by voters in 2002, following a campaign by animal-rights advocates.Honestly, what offends me most -- and there's much about this that's offensive -- is that some guy in the Florida legislature has the nerve to speak out against special interests by saying that proper treatment of animals is not a timeless principle...

Arguments Against GMOs (and Industrial Agriculture)

Treehuggerhttp://www.treehugger.com [Treehugger] We know some people that are not very impressed by some of the most common arguments against genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Saying that we don't know what will happen once they are introduced in nature, that they could be invasive, disturb the food chain, that we're going against nature, etc.

GMOs and Choice

http://taoofbiotechnology.blogspot.com [The Tao of Biotechnology] The most important argument against GMOs, for me, is that if GMOs take over the world, I will no longer be able to eat what I choose to eat. That’s an important issue.

British Public Tiring of Greenpeace

http://neinuclearnotes.blogspot.com [NEI Nuclear Notes] Prime Minister Tony Blair from delivering a speech on energy policy that said Britain needs to consider building a new generation of nuclear plants, Oliver Kamm in the Times of London says it's time for the public to change its perception of Greenpeace and other pressure groups: The intention of yesterday's Greenpeace protest at the CBI conference was, the organisation's spokesman said, "to stop Tony Blair delivering his speech". Not since the author of Tarka the Otter, Henry Williamson, evangelised for the English landscape and wartime fascism has British political debate seen a more explicit identification of the ecological cause with contempt for democracy.

Terminator Comeback In Monsanto High Lysine GM Corn

La Leva di Archimede (ENG)[La Leva di Archimede (ENG)] The DHPDS sequence driven by the Glb1 promoter was preceded by two synthetic linker sequences, an intron from rice actin gene and a chloroplast targeting sequence from maize DHPDS gene. In the primary construct was included next to genes for the high lysine trait a loxP (recombination site recognized by Cre recombinase) followed by a CaMV promoter driving a neomycin antibiotic resistance gene along with bleomycin resistance gene with a nos transcription terminator from Agrobacterium followed by another lox site .
